Nightrider Shuttle Bus Service The Byron Bay Liquor Accord is proud to announce the commencement of a night shuttle bus service, known as the “Byron Bay Nightrider”, operating on Friday and Saturday nights from 7pm until 4am, covering areas from Sunrise, Suffolk Park, Baywood Chase, Byron Hills, Lillipili and the town centre. The service will operate on a predominantly pre-determined route and, in most instances, customers will be collected or dropped off somewhere along the route. The service is for patrons of participating licenced venues. For the first month, the cost of a one-way trip will be $3. People wishing to use the service must pre-purchase tickets from any of the hotels and nightclubs in town, bottle shops, including those in Sunrise and Suffolk Park and participating restaurants. The primary aim of the Nightrider shuttle bus is to dramatically reduce the incidence of drink driving. Byron Bay has had the worst rate of drink driving in NSW for 7 of the last 8 years. No doubt, this is in part due to a lack of an alternative low-cost evening transport service. The Byron Bay Liquor Accord therefore asks that people now think twice before driving into town when they plan to drink, and, if they can’t afford a taxi then arrange to catch a ride on the Byron Bay Nightrider. The availability of a cheaper alternative may also mean that more residents are able to enjoy a night out with their friends. Anyone wanting to use the Nightrider service within the designated areas can arrange a pick-up by calling 0419 848 875 during the hours of operation. If you’re in town, you can also ask security or management at the venue to contact the driver. The Byron Bay Liquor Accord would like to graciously thank the NSW RTA for their generous contribution to the service, without which it may never have got off the ground. We would also like to thank Byron Bay Taxi’s, Frontline Printing and others who have contributed to making the service possible.
